This Domaine is the certified organic arm of the well-known Château Moncontour estate, located in the heart of the Vouvray appellation. Château Moncontour used to belong to the Tours’ bishop in the Fourth century but became a property of King Charles the Seventh, back in the fifteenth century. Since 1994, with the same passion as their predecessors, the Feray family began revamping the vineyard and improving the winemaking. It is now one of the most beautiful and renowned of the Loire Valley. The estate is situated close to the Loire river and enjoys good sun exposure coupled with excellent temperature variation during the night and day. The soils are mainly clay and chalk. The grapes come from vines that are between 20-45 years old. They are pressed slowly at low pressure, fermented in temperature-controlled tanks for about three months with no malolactic fermentation (this retains the appley acidity.)
Vouvray achieved its own appelation in 1936 and is the largest appellation in the Loire Valley.
