Thierry Doat’s winery lies in the heart of Beaujolais country in Jarnioux in eastern France. The château itself was built in 1860 by Auguste Guinon, a rich industrialist from Lyon. He began wine making with his father, Robert in 1977, and in 1982 they converted the winery to organic production. Many of their vines are now more than 70 years old which helps lower the yield and produce more finely flavored wines.
Beaujolais is one of France’s most famous wine-producing areas and lies in a relatively narrow area along the Saône River between Mâcon and Lyon. It is best known for its Beaujolais Nouveat, wine released the third Thursday of November from the newly-harvested Gamay grapes to celebrate the new year’s vintage.
The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified carefully, with extremely small amounts of sulphur added at bottling. Such methods guarantee that the finished product is of the highest quality and authentic in character, while respecting nature and all its diversity.
